DARIEN, CT — The Planning and Zoning Commission is set to begin deliberations this evening, May 5, on a proposal to turn the former Darien Playhouse into a mixed-use development called "Darien Place."

Under the plan by developer Jon Vaccaro, the former movie theater would house retail shops on the first floor and four apartments on the second floor, the largest of which would be about 875 square feet. Each of the other three apartments would be between 600 and 700 square feet.

The property was sold in January for $11.3 million, and last month the site's parking situation was discussed during a public hearing, writes the Darien Times.

In addition to the former playhouse, the 183-space parking lot is shared with the Darien Sports Shop and Webster Bank.

The number of spaces would increase by about four under the proposal.
