Power Outages Persist Nearly A Week After Storm

In many ways the storm's devastation surpassed Superstorm Sandy.

BROOKFIELD, CT — Electric utility companies has managed to reduce the number of power outages from a high of 120,000 to about 6,000 as of Monday afternoon. Eversource has about 5,800 outages and United Illuminating has 226.

Eversource had more than 1,000 people working to restore power to Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, Oxford and Southbury. The company previously estimated power would be back Sunday.

Brookfield Public Schools will remained closed through Tuesday, which will mean students have missed five days due to the storm. The last day of school is scheduled for June 29, but the school system is requesting a waiver for the mandatory 180 days of school requirement. New Fairfield Public Schools also remained closed Monday.
