Special Weather Statement Issued for Fairfield County

The National Weather Service has issued a Special Weather Statement for Fairfield County as strong thunderstorms are moving through now.

...A LINE OF STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL AFFECT SOUTHERN FAIRFIELD COUNTY

At 429 PM EDT, radar indicated strong thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Stamford to Elmont. Movement was northeast at 25 mph.

Pea size hail is possible with these storms.

Locations impacted include...
Stamford, Norwalk, Levittown, Huntington Station, Port Chester, Glen Cove, Plainview, Garden City, New Canaan, Syosset, Mineola, Huntington, Rye, Westbury and Great Neck.

Torrential rainfall is also occurring with these storms, and may cause localized flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe shelter inside a building or vehicle.
