Special Weather Statement Issued For Southern Connecticut

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement due to potentially hazardous conditions tonight.

It looks like we aren’t out of the woods just yet in terms of potentially dangerous Connecticut weather. Warmer temperatures Tuesday morning and afternoon are a double-edged sword as anything that melts can refreeze tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for southern Connecticut, which includes Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London Counties.

“Temperatures today will warm to near 40, but quickly fall after sunset to below freezing,” the NWS said in a statement. “By 6 to 7 p.m., temperatures will start falling into the 20s.”

Standing water from snow melt will refreeze into icy conditions on untreated driveways, sidewalks and roadways.

The NWS advises people to clear away slush and standing water if possible this afternoon before it freezes.
