On Friday, the National Weather Service issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for much of Fairfield County for Saturday, with thunderstorms that could produce "gusty winds and heavy rain."
"Fireworks Weather Update: Due to impending inclement weather, the Darien Parks and Recreation Fireworks have been postponed until Sunday, July 7th," stated Darien Recreation Program Supervisor Jami Gore. "Event times do not change. Gates open at 6:30pm and Fireworks at dusk (approximately 9:15pm)."

Gore had hinted at the possibility of the fireworks' postponement in a message on Friday:
We just wanted to send out a heads up regarding a possible postponement of the Darien Fireworks tomorrow evening. As some of you may be aware, there are concerns regarding the weather for tomorrow night. The forecasts we have received are conflicting and sitting around 50% chance for thunderstorms. Therefore, we are going to hold off until tomorrow morning to make a decision as to whether to postpone. You will hear from me by 9:00 am as to whether we are moving forward with tomorrow night or pushing to the rain date on Sunday. All timing and logistics remain the same if we push to Sunday.
Thank you for your patience and support as we try to make the best decision for the event.
