Trio Of Scooter Thieves Arrested At Darien Train Station: Police

The incident occurred in the afternoon on Aug. 7.

DARIEN, CT — Two Stamford men and a Bridgeport man were arrested on larceny charges by Darien police on Aug. 7 after the trio tried to steal motorized scooters from the Darien Train Station, according to authorities.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. after officers were called to the station on a report that three people were in the midst of taking the scooters.

"The caller stated the males were attempting to force the scooters off of the rack and were walking them down the sidewalk as it didn’t appear they had the keys," wrote Darien Police Det. James Palmieri in a statement. "A description of the suspect’s clothing was broadcast to all responding officers."

As officers approached the station, one of the suspects was seen running away and was captured on the platform. The other two were spotted and caught by an officer who was working an extra-duty job at a nearby construction site, Palmier said.

The three were identified as:

  • Stamford resident Jeffrey Pierre, 19, of Greenwood Heights, who was charged with third-degree larceny, criminal attempt at third-degree larceny and conspiracy
  • Stamford resident Anjel Rodriguez, 20, of Greenwich Avenue, who was charged with third-degree larceny and conspiracy
  • Bridgeport resident Tyler Barnett, 19, of Mencel Circle, who was charged with third-degree larceny, criminal attempt at third-degree larceny, conspiracy and interfering with officer

After he was caught, Rodriguez told officers that the other two were "taking scooters" but that he wasn't participating, while Barnett initially gave officers the fake name of "Tyler Alexander" but he was correctly identified.

All three were taken into custody and later released after posting various bond amounts. They are all scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug. 21.
