Unbeaten Darien Advance in FCIAC Tourney

Blue Wave Boys carry 18-0 record into semi-final round

The Darien Blue Wave Boys Volleyball team toppled the Stamford Black Knights in three sets Monday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the FCIAC playoffs. Darien, the state’s number one team, earned a first round bye.

The Wave Boys were workmanlike and the game was never in doubt with The Wave downing the Black Knights in straight sets 25-10, 25-12, and 25-13.

Darien (18-0) will host Ridgefield (13-6) in the FCIAC semi-final round on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.

The Darien Boys have beaten Ridgefield in three consecutive sets in both meetings this season. The Tigers are an improving team and will present Darien with a difficult challenge. Ridgefield lost twice to Staples in the regular season, but knocked them off in their third meeting of the season -- the FCIAC quarterfinal round on Monday -- to advance to the semi-finals.

The Tigers do not have as much depth on their roster as Darien, but they do have an outstanding Middle Hitter in Rocco Bonadeis, a freshman. It would be an upset if Ridgefield could beat Darien – a team that is loaded with some of the top players in the state. Tri-Captains, Luke Bradbury, Frank Pirone, and Zarek Swetye along with Will Olson, Trevor Herget, Isaac McMullin, Trey Davenport, Luke Smith, and Griffith Crouse give Darien depth at every position.
