A Darien resident confronted a man who entered her home during a possible burglary attempt, according to police.

DARIEN, CT — A Darien resident confronted a man who entered her home during a possible burglary attempt Thursday morning, according to police.

In a news release, Police Sgt. James Palmieri said officers received a report of a possible burglary at a Ridgeley Street home around 8:30 a.m.

According to Palmieri, the resident said she was on the second floor of the home when she noticed an unknown man coming up the stairs.

The resident confronted the man, who said he was delivering a package, Palmieri said. In response, the resident said she was not expecting a package and told the man to leave, which he did, Palmieri said.

"Based on a preliminary investigation," Palmieri said in a news release, "it was determined that there were no threats made, nothing was taken from or disturbed within the residence and there are no apparent connections between the homeowner and suspect."

The suspect was described by police as a white man wearing dark pants and a gray sweatshirt. He was also seen driving away in a gray newer model BMW, Palmieri said.

"As of this release," Palmieri said, "it appears to be an isolated, random incident, which leads investigators to believe there is no ongoing threat to the public. As always, we encourage residents to take appropriate safety measures at their homes to protect their property and, more importantly, their families."
