Woman Crashes Into Parked Vehicle In Darien, Leaves Scene: PD
"The complainant stated the female's breath smelled of alcoholic beverage, and that she was stumbling as she walked," said Darien police.

DARIEN, CT — A 39-year-old Greenwich woman, who Darien police indicated may have been intoxicated at the time, crashed her car into a parked vehicle on Ledge Road in Darien in July, fled the scene, and was arrested on a warrant last week.
Layli Harandi, of Sound Beach Avenue, surrendered to Darien police on Sept. 10 and was charged with evading responsibility, failure to drive in the proper lane and failure to insure a motor vehicle in connection with the July 22 crash.
According to Darien police, the incident occurred at about midnight when a Ledge Road resident "heard a loud crash outside his home," and when he outside to investigate he saw that a white Kia sedan had crashed into his legally parked vehicle on Ledge Road.

"As he approached the sedan, a female exited and began to talk to him about 'taking care of the problem,'" wrote Darien police in a statement. "She repeatedly grabbed his hand and begged him not to call the police. The complainant stated the female's breath smelled of alcoholic beverage, and that she was stumbling as she walked. Her speech was also described as slurred."
The woman, later identified as Harandi, fled the scene before police arrived.

"Officers called her cell phone several times, but could not make contact. The officer would later receive a return call from an attorney who was representing the suspect, identified as Layli Harandi. The attorney informed officers she would not be making any statements, and that her vehicle was currently unregistered," police said.
Harandi was released after posting a $500 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Sept. 20.
"In incidents such as these, police are unable to charge the suspect for DUI as they cannot testify that they personally observed the suspect show signs of intoxication, and are unable to give the opportunity for the appropriate on-scene field testing," Darien police said.
