The club opened to acclaim as longest and finest in the New York City area.

DARIEN, CT—The Woodway Country Club celebrated its 100-year anniversary Oct. 1.

The club was founded in 1916 by the law offices of Judge Frederick Taylor, according to the Darien Times. One founder was U.S. House Rep. Schuler Merritt.
One of the blocks of land purchased for the club was the 184-acre Woodway Farm.

The course opened in June 1918 and was the longest tournament gold course in the New York metropolitan area.
