Deep River Town Meeting, 6/8 To Discuss Tax Credit
Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit for the Deep River Congregational Church and the Deep River Housing Authority will be discussed.

DEEP RIVER, CT — There is an upcoming Town Meeting to be held on Tuesday, June 6th to vote on the Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit for the Deep RiverCongregational Church and the Deep River Housing Authority. It will be a hybrid meeting held both in person and via Zoom immediately following the 6:30 p.m. Selectmen's Meeting.
At the last town of Deep River Selectmen's meeting, Alison Karam spoke on behalf of the Deep River Congregational Church stating that the Church was tremendously utilized during the pandemic and went from serving 50 meals per week to 180 meals per week during the peak of the pandemic.
However, with more use, comes more need for upgrades and repairs. The Church would use the tax credit for energy-efficient appliances, low flow faucets for the bathrooms and kitchens, sustainable energy-efficient windows and wall coverings. The project's total is approximately $26,500.

According to the meeting's notes, First Selectman Angus McDonald explained that the Housing Authority would use the funds to upgrade 21 units with energy-efficient refrigerators, provided it receives enough funds to cover the cost.
McDonald disclosed that the Deep River Housing Authority and the Deep River Congregational
Church have been utilizing the Neighborhood Assistance Act for the past 6 years. The Town
acts as a conduit for the Housing Authority and the Church and the CT Dept. of Revenue
Services and needs a town meeting to approve the motion.
