Looking Good For 150 Years-Old

The Ivoryton Library is celebrating its 150th Anniversary with a call for a community-supported endowment fund. Will you help?

(Karena Garrity)

ESSEX, CT — History comes alive at the Ivoryton Library as it celebrates its inception.

In the 19th Century, the Ivoryton Ladies’ Society began meeting around the desire for sharing recipes and creating a lending library. In 1871, each member donated $1 at a time, that was when a dollar bought 14 books! Thus, was the beginning of the Ivoryton Library story….and this year, 2021, celebrates the 150th anniversary of the library!

To commemorate the milestone, the majority of the library's fundraising during this year will be used to grow its very important endowment fund. A healthy endowment will help ensure that the library is here for another 150 years, supporting and enhancing the community of the Villages of Essex.

The Library has set a goal of having 150 families donate at least $150 each.

Will yours be one of those families? They hope so!

You will be able to see this campaign grow our endowment fund with a stack of “books” installed in front of the library. To help us with that effort, please include the title of your favorite book along with your donation. You will see your title as the fund grows!
