Heads Up To Parents Who Pick Their Kids Up At Spencer's Corner
With new residents moving into The Lofts At Spencer's Corner, pick up from Essex Elementary School will look different for many families.
ESSEX, CT — With new residents moving into The Lofts at Spencer's Corner this coming week, Essex Elementary School Principal, Jennifer Tousignant, alerted parents who pick-up their children at the parking lot at Spencers Corner will no longer be permitted to do so, and instead those parents should pick up their children at the school. The following letter was sent to parents via e-mail:
"Good Afternoon,
It is my understanding that some students are dismissed as "walkers" at the end of the school day and walk over to Spencer's Corner to be picked up. As most of you probably know, much of Spencers Corner has been renovated for housing. The final inspection has occurred and new residents will be moving into The Lofts at Spencer's Corner this coming week. I received a call to let you know that anyone who is not conducting business in Spencers Corner will not be permitted to park and wait there as it is private property.
As principal of EES, having students walk to a parking lot that will inevitably have more traffic with seventeen new apartments is a safety concern for our students that I am very uncomfortable with. We want to be sure all students get home safely each day!
If you utilize the 'walk to Spencer's Corner' system, I encourage you to find an alternate procedure to dismissal. Parent pick-up in the front of the school moves very quickly, typically less than 8 minutes total. Please let us know if you anticipate a change in your child's dismissal plans and we will make note of it.
Thank you for your continued support, flexibility and understanding.
Warmly, Jenn"
