Spring Sports In Region 4 Schools Moving Forward

Starting Saturday, Spring Sports at Valley Regional High School will begin practices. Last year at this time all sports were canceled

ESSEX, CHESTER, DEEP RIVER, CT — According to a recent letter was sent out Valley Regional High School students and parents the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) Board of Control has made the determination that all Spring athletics will begin on March 27, 2021.

As previously communicated this year, the Region 4 Public Schools will continue to adhere to the guidance provided by the Connecticut Department of Public Health as well as our local public health partners at CRAHD and the Town of Essex Health Department.

Therefore, Valley has adopted the following Covid-19 safety measures for the Spring 2021 season:
Student athletes
- Teams have been provided hand sanitizer, gloves, and cleaning products.
- Student athletes must wear masks when not engaged in active participation in play. All coaches and personnel are required to wear face masks. Masks will be required on the sidelines at all times.
- Social distancing must be observed.
- Athletes must bring their own water to avoid sharing of containers.
- Students must bring home all equipment and clothing each day to be washed and sanitized.
We are currently in discussion with our fellow Shoreline schools and health departments about what may be possible for spectator participation during the upcoming spring season at Valley. While we do anticipate some level of spectators during games, we will be sending a follow-up communication in the near future about what is possible, as well as any public health requirements.
As always, in order to participate, athletes must be registered using the Valley Athletics Registration form. Additionally, an updated physical and current ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing) test must be on file. Physicals are valid for 15 months this year for fall sports, due to the pandemic. All updated physicals must be processed by our school nurse.
All registered student-athletes will be contacted by their coaches about specifics on practice and game times for their sport. If you have any questions about the registration status of your student, you may reach out to Jeff Swan, Sheila Robida, or Sally Riggio.
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Mike Barile, Principal
Jeff Swan, Athletic Coordinator
