Rain Or Shine

Popular FOX CT News weather personality Joe Furey will return as master of ceremonies for the seventh annual CT Walks For Haiti walk-a-thon and Haitian festival on Saturday, April 2nd Rain Or Shine.

Attracting hundreds of supporters, the annual walk through West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square raises funds for established Haitian charities. Walkers gather at St. Peter Claver parish center for the 2.5 mi. walk and the Haitian-themed festival, offering authentic Haitian cuisine, crafts, music, Haitian children games and a silent auction featuring Red Sox tickets, gift cards from local businesses and more:

The festivities begin at 10:30 a.m; the walk starts at 12:00; festivities close at 2:30 p.m. Walkers and non-walkers will have plenty to enjoy.

CT Walks For Haiti, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization. Proceeds from the event will go directly as grants to the following charities that have compelling needs:

Camp Hispaniola - food budget for two daily meals for a 10 day arts/music/sports camp for more than 300 children in Port-au-Prince and nearby sugar plantations in the Dominican Republic;

Haitian Health Foundation - diabetes diagnosis and treatment for patients in Jeremie;

Haitian Humanitarian Network - marketplace and In-Home Outreach program providing screening for at-risk women and children, with ongoing Clinic Support, in Beaulieu;

Medical Aid to Haiti -surgical services in Dame-Marie and primary medical to impoverished villages in and around Port au Prince;

Operation Unisson - critical health education for 140 orphaned and vulnerable children in Haiti;

Outreach to Haiti - tuition, books, annual physical and dental care for 6 students.
