Eagle Scout Will Sanford to lead a hike through the Farmington Memorial Town Forest

Will Sanford is the perfect ’guide’ for the Farmington Land Trust’s final Stroll on the Land this October. Will knows the terrain better than most. The 17 year old Dean’s List student at Avon Old Farms School, Will has been a member of Boy Scout Troop 68 for the past 8 years. In 2012 he began planning his Eagle Scout Service Project. One of his goals was to raise awareness and use of the town forest. He led a group of volunteers in the construction of two kiosks at the Plainville Avenue and Red Oak Hill entrances to the forest. He rerouted a trail away from residential areas and reblazed three major trials through the forest. He also created a new trail map which can be found on the kiosks. The project was completed on June 1, 2014.

The Farmington Memorial Town Forest, established in 1926 to honor the men and women who served in World War 1, consists of 266 acres. The land is open to the public for passive recreation such as hiking and bird watching.

On Sunday, October 5th, hikers will meet at 1pm at the Town Memorial Forest, Plainville Avenue, entrance Located across from and between Snowberry Lane and Autumn Way Developments on RT 177.
