Farmington High School Swimmer Captures Class M Title

The four CIAC boys swimming class championships were contested Monday at Southern Connecticut State and Wesleyan universities.

NEW HAVEN-MIDDLETOWN, CT — It was some of the old and some of the new at the CIAC boys swimming championships, held Monday at the pools at Southern Connecticut State and Wesleyan universities.

Greenwich captured its 26th Class LL title in the past 27 years, while Holy Cross was victorious for the first time in school history in Class S. In Class L, New Canaan won for the third time in four years, while Pomperaug ended the two-year reign of Weston in Class M.

Three new meet records were established, all in Class S. Haddam-Killingworth set a new class standard in the 200 medley relay, Holy Cross broke the 400 freestyle relay record and Michael Baldini of Northwest Catholic shattered the previous mark in the 200 individual medley.

Baldini also won the 100 breaststroke; other two-time individual event winners were Connor Hunt of Ridgefield (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle, LL), Ben Feldman of Westhill/Stamford (100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, LL), Michael Kotlyar of New Canaan (50 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, L), Billy Regan of Pomperaug (200 individual medley, 100 freestyle, M), Colin MacKellar of Pomperaug (100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, M) and Jack Crocamo of Seymour (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, S).

The State Open will be contested Thursday, March 14 at the Yale University pool.
