FARMINGTON — For residents on the town of Farmington's trash collection service, the annual Christmas tree collection is scheduled to start on Jan 11, town officials said.

The program will continue for approximately two weeks, they added.

Residents should place their Christmas trees near the curbs. The Highway and Grounds Division of Public Works (not the trash collection service), will pick up the trees around the same day as a scheduled trash collection.

Winter weather may delay the pickup and residents should make sure their trees are not buried and are visible after a storm, officials said.

All plastic bags, stands, lights, ornaments and tinsel must be removed from the trees so they can be chipped safely with no contaminants, officials said.

Residents who do not have municipal trash collection can bring their Christmas trees to the Tunxis Mead Compost Area on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon, weather permitting.
