Farmington Obituary: William Higgins, 90

Prior to retiring, he was the President, CEO and Treasurer of Tull Brothers, Inc., in Rocky Hill.

William J. Higgins, 90, of Farmington, beloved companion of Elizabeth T. Kalinowski, passed away Thursday, September 13, 2018 at his home.

Born January 6, 1928 in New Britain, he was the son of the late Michael and Helen (Sheehan) Higgins. Bill was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, where he served as a pilot with the U.S. Marine Air Corps. Prior to retiring, he was the President, CEO and Treasurer of Tull Brothers, Inc., in Rocky Hill.

He was very active in numerous civic organizations, including as Chairman of the Board of Manes and Motions, and as a member of the Board of Directors and Finance Board Chairman for the Hospital for Special Care. In addition, Bill was a Corporator of New Britain General Hospital, Corporator and member of the Advisory Board at St. Francis Hospital, and Corporator of the New Britain Y.M.C.A. He was also a member of the Farmington Country Club, the Shuttle Meadow Country Club, the Jr./Sr. Golf Society of Connecticut, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, the American Society of Architectural Hardware Consultants, and the Hartford Rotary Club.

Bill is survived by his two children, Sean Higgins and his wife Pamela of Southington, Mary Beth Willmore and her husband Robert of McLean, VA, his four beloved grandchildren, Katelyn and Sarah Higgins and Kathleen and Patrick Willmore, his brother, Robert Higgins and his wife Jean of New Britain. Bill was predeceased by his former spouse Lucille (Scalise) Higgins and his brother John (Jack) Higgins.

Friends may call at The Ahern Funeral Home, 111 Main St., Rt. 4, Unionville on Friday (Sept. 21) from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral procession from The Ahern Funeral Home will be Saturday (Sept. 22) at 9:15am, followed by the Funeral Liturgy in the Church of St. Patrick, 110 Main St., Farmington at 10:00am. Burial will be in the family plot at St. Mary Cemetery, New Britain.
