Farmington Teens Raise Money for Connecticut Children's Medical Center

Two Farmington teens helped raise money to purchase toys for patients at the hospital.

The following was submitted by the medical center about how two Farmington teens raised money to purchase toys for patients.

The Connecticut Children’s Medical Center has worked wonders for young patients by delivering high quality care and treatment. Connecticut Children’s was named one of the U.S. News and World Report Best Children’s Hospitals in 2013-14. The Medical Center has developed to be one of the greatest because of its many generous volunteers and donors.

Two Farmington teens, Haley Prisloe and Ally Dolmanisth, had this in mind when completing their Silver Award for Girl Scouting. To achieve this award, they asked friends and family members to sponsor them in running a 5k race with cash donations. The girls then used over $560 in donations to purchase toys for the Connecticut Childrens Medical Center. Haley and Ally interviewed Marcy Lombardo, Development Coordinator, at Connecticut Children’s foundation office in Hartford. Ms. Lombardo shared with them her role at the foundation and how the medical center strives to promote children’s optimal healthy development. She also spoke of how your donations can really impact the patients at CCMC.

The Medical Center receives donations everyday but not nearly enough to suffice the 321,000 annual patients who are in need. With the littlest donation of cash or an inexpensive gift you could make a huge difference. The hospital gladly accepts financial support. But, if you would rather collect new toys or stuffed animals for the young patients, you can know they will be used and loved often. If you are interested in giving back to the CCMC, start your own toy drive or raise money at a bake sale in your local community. You could also visit the foundation website to learn more about the mission of the medical center and the many events that you can get involved with such as golf tournaments, road races, and car shows.

In-kind donations, or non-financial donations, are often used to distract patients who have to undergo frightening surgeries or medical procedures. These gifts are also used therapeutically to comfort kids at the medical center. Toy donations truly make a significant difference in the lives of young hospital patients and their ability to improve overall wellness. Make a difference today by putting a gift in a child’s hand and you can be sure that you put a smile on their face.
