Farmington Valley High School musicians win orchestra competition

Farmington High School musicians win second and third place in the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition

The Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Young Artists Competition was held April 28, 2018 in Torrington’s Trinity Episcopal Church. First prize winner violinist Elliott Davis participates in the music program at Avon High School. Second prize winner violinist Natalie Wong, a Farmington High School freshman, third prize winner violist Rita Monahan, a Farmington High School senior attending Eastman School of Music next fall.
Elliott performed the first movement of Tchaikovsky’s violin concerto, Natalie performed the first movement of Lalo’s Symphonie Espagnole and Rita performed the first movement of Hindemith’s Der Schwanendreher. The competition is open to high school students participating in the music departments of school systems attending the Nutmeg Symphony Orchestra Educational Children’s Concerts, or in high schools collaborating with the orchestra on special projects. The competition is sponsored by the Oles Family Charitable Foundation.
