Final 10 Names Revealed For CIAC All-Century Basketball Teams

A total of 25 girls and 25 boys have been feted as the greatest Connecticut high school basketball players of the past 100 years.

CONNECTICUT — After a three-week hiatus, the final five girls and boys All-Century high school basketball team members have been revealed by the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, picked in commemoration of the organization's 100th anniversary. Twenty names from each squad had been revealed in prior weeks.

Players are listed with their name during their high school career, their graduation year and school. The All-Century teams were compiled with input from past and current coaches, veteran high school basketball writers and others closely associated with Connecticut boys and girls basketball through the decades.

Selections were made strictly on the player's high school career, not necessarily on their later accomplishments in college and/or pro ball. Players selected to the teams are not ranked in any order; rather, the CIAC released five names weekly at random.

GIRLS

Heather Buck – Stonington – 2008

  • Gatorade State Player of the Year in 2007 and 2008
  • 4 time All-State selection
  • Career totals of 2,205 points and 1,406 rebounds
  • Led team to two championship game appearances, and a title in 2006 (OT loss in 2005)
  • Averaged 26.4 points and 15.8 rebounds as a senior

Tracy Claxton – Wilbur Cross – 1980

  • Helped team earn three Class L state titles
  • 3rd team Parade All-American
  • Career averages of 29.5 points and 27.6 rebounds, scored 2,420 career points

Bethany Collins – Branford – 1984

  • Team went 71-4 during career
  • Converse All-American and 4th team Parade All-American
  • Helped team to 2 state titles (1983 and 1984)
  • Scored 1,339 career points

Kiah Gillespie – Capital Prep – 2015

  • McDonald’s All-American
  • Two-time Gatorade Player of the Year
  • Team appeared in four state title games, winning three
  • Scored 2,208 career points
  • Averaged 31.2 points and 16.2 rebounds per game as a senior (including 42 points and 22 rebounds in state championship win)

Holly Oslander – North Branford – 1989

  • 3-time state champion in 1986, 1987, 1989
  • Left North Branford with career records in points, rebounds and blocks
  • Converse All-American
  • Career totals of 1,382 points, 825 rebounds

BOYS

Chuck Aleksinas – Wamogo – 1977

  • Tallied 1,916 career points in 3 varsity seasons
  • McDonald’s All-American in 1977
  • Averaged 40.1 points a game while shooting 71 percent, averaged 19 rebounds and five blocks a game senior year with 960 points total
  • 2-time All-State selection

John Bagley – Harding – 1979

  • All State honoree in 1979
  • Helped team to three championship game appearances
  • Captured state title in 1978

Harold Pressley – St. Bernard – 1982

  • 1982 McDonald’s All-American
  • 1st Team Parade Magazine All-American
  • 2-time state champion (1981 and 1982)
  • 3-time All-State selection

Art Quimby – Bulkeley (New London) – 1951

  • Led team to undefeated record in 1951, winning state and New England championships
  • All-State choice in 1951
  • Rebounding force
  • Said to have offers from 74 colleges, chose UConn where he led the nation in rebounding in 1954

John Williamson – Wilbur Cross – 1970

  • Led nation in scoring with 38.7 points per game as a senior
  • 1957 2nd Team Parade All-American
  • 2-time state champion (1967 and 1968, runner up in 1969)
  • 2-time All-State selection
  • Scored 2,100 career points
