Keniston Decides Not to Primary Against Endorsed Republican Council Candidates

A Farmington Republican councilman who wasn't endorsed for his Second District seat at a town committee meeting Monday initially said he would primary for not that race but for council chair.

But on Tuesday, the councilman, Charles Keniston, instead decided not to primary for either race, according to Republican Town Committee Chairman Mike Clark.

"I just spoke with Charlie Keniston this afternoon," Clark told his party in an email Tuesday. "After some reflection he has graciously decided not to primary in either the second district or for the Town Council Chair position. He has cited the call for party unity as one of the reasons for his decision."

Clark commended Keniston for his service to the town and Republican party.

"Charlie has served with great distinction on the Town Council and has been in the FRTC for over 40 years," Clark said.

Clark encouraged his fellow Republicans to come together and be unified as a party.

"He is setting a tremendous example for all of us," Clark said. "Now that the caucus is behind us let's pull together and continue the tremendous success of Republican leadership in our town. Join me in thanking Charlie for taking this action and accepting the role of senior statesman in our group."
