Tunxis Community College shared college updates with area legislators during a breakfast on January 24.
Sens. Derek Slap (D-5) and Henri Martin (R-31), and State Reps. Mike Demicco (D-21), Leslee Hill (R-17), John Piscopo (R-76), and Whit Betts (R-78), talked with Tunxis students and officials, who shared the latest on college initiatives and how the college is expanding its educational offerings and services to meet student, business, and community needs.
Among the topics discussed included initiatives to lower the cost of textbooks, Tunxis Civic Engagement Institute, the advanced manufacturing program, partnerships with local companies, new programs to be launched soon, and the need for more faculty, advisors, staff, and tutors.

Tunxis Community College, which first opened for classes in October 1970, is celebrating 50 years of education in the Farmington Valley and beyond. Today approximately 6,000 students enroll in more than 70 credit and continuing education programs each semester as they prepare for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need.
