FARMINGTON, CT — The Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority is scheduled to decide on a slight adjustment for some Connecticut Water Co. customers Wednesday.

The adjustment is for the "reconciliation" of Water Infrastructure and Conservation Adjustment, or WICA on some bills, for the customers of the former Avon Water Co. in Avon, Farmington, and Simsbury.

WICA is a mechanism that allows utilities recovery for completed infrastructure replacement projects.

If the WICA has charge generated revenues that were less than expected the reconciliation adjustment can be increased to "true it up," Connecticut water spokesman Daniel Meaney said.

If more revenue was collected than anticipated, then anything over the authorized amount is returned to customers through a "surcredit" on their bills over a year's period, he said.

The reconciliation happens once a year.

The item on PURA's Wednesday agenda is to issue a final decision on a 0.80 percent surcredit on bills of the former Avon Water Co. beginning April 1, 2021 through March 31, 2022, Meaney said.
