Justa Rebel made his owner that much last year alone on the racetrack.

Since buying a horse for $15,000 in New York, Somers horse trainer Stephen Reid said that his Gelding has doubled in value to $30,000.

Reid stables his horse, Justa Rebel, 7, at Second Chance Ranch on East Street in East Granby. Last year alone, Justa Rebel, who races in Yonkers, NY, made Reid $50,000.

Reid trains the 950-pound horse on a practice track about five miles a day.

Justa Rebel does a form of racing called driving, so the jockey rides in a cart the horse pulls rather than on his back. He competes again on April 12.

Reid also co-owns a horse he stables at Second Chance called American Hotrod.
