Community Rallying Around Granby Girl Hurt By Falling Tree
A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist the girl and her family.

GRANBY, CT — Family, friends and community members are rallying behind a North Granby girl who was injured in a freak accident Tuesday afternoon at McLean Game Refuge.
Katie O'Neill, 10, a fifth-grade student, was struck by a falling tree at the game refuge around 1:57 p.m. She was hiking with four other children and two adults as part of a birthday party when a tree fell onto the path as she passed beneath, police said.
Capt. William Tyler said his understanding is Katie underwent surgery Tuesday night and is in an intensive care unit.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to assist the O'Neill family. It reads:
"Many of you know our beloved O’Neill family here in Granby. Katie O’Neill, 10 years old and a 5th grader, was tragically struck by a falling tree while on an afternoon hike. Katie is a beautiful, kindhearted, smart, thoughtful young lady with a long road to recovery. She is a fighter with immense inner strength. Your donations will go to help Katie and her family as they heal. A benefit will also be arranged in the near future. More details will be provided as they become available.
