East Granby Bonding Committee Informational Meeting

Report to be released at a meeting to be held at 7:30 pm on December 13th at the Senior Community Center

The East Granby Bonding Committee was established by the Board of Selectmen to review and identify potential town-wide capital infrastructure projects and to consider the funding of them through the issuance of Town Bonds. The Committee will release its report to residents at a strictly Informational Meeting to be held at 7:30 pm on Thursday December 13th at the Senior Community Center.

The Committee has researched and identified the following items for future consideration by the town residents:

  • School Roofs – The Middle School/High School roofs were last replaced, depending on the section, in 1987 and 1992. They are at the end of their service life and active leaks have been repaired. The Allgrove Elementary School roof was replaced in 1992 and is approaching the end of its service life.
  • Town Roofs – Nine town building roofs were evaluated and five roofs were identified for replacement since they are at the end of their service life: Senior Community Center new in 1991, Public Safety new in 1991, Town Hall replaced in 1989, Ambulance Building replaced in 1989 and the South-end Fire house due to premature shingle failure.
  • Road Maintenance – East Granby has 37 miles of town-owned roads. Twenty-three miles of roads have been identified as poor, poor/fair and fair. The committee has looked at a five-year plan to repair and repave these roads as part of a comprehensive and consistent road maintenance program.
  • Allgrove School Electric Service Replacement/Ductless Air conditioning – Air conditioning at Allgrove, currently the only school in the district without it, has been identified as a priority. An electrical engineer has been commissioned to determine if the current 400-amp service to the building will support the addition of ductless air conditioning/heat pump units. Previously, the Elementary School Building Committee was able to complete the removal and replacement of asbestos floor tile, install new gang bathrooms, re-balance the electrical load, dehumidification, conversion to natural gas for heating and new windows. The roof replacement and the addition of air conditioning would be the last pieces of major improvements to Allgrove that have been made since 2012.

Please join the Committee at the Senior Community Center on December 13th at 7:30 pm for an informational meeting which will identify and discuss town-wide infrastructure needs and potential solutions.
