East Granby Obituary: Charle Smith, 80

Condolences to his family and friends.

Charle Joseph Smith, 80 of East Granby, passed away peacefully at home on Monday 19th of March 2018.

He was born in Staten Island, NY on 29 January 1938, the son of the late Lucille and Charles W. Smith. He grew up in East Haddam and Moodus, and graduated from Nathan Hale-Ray High School. He attended the University of Connecticut and obtained his degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering.

He taught at Porter School of Tool & Machine Design before going to work for United Technologies Aerospace Systems at their Windsor Locks location until his retirement in 2008.He lived most of his life in Connecticut with 12 years in Pennsylvania.

His hobbies included astrology and other fields of interest in his spare time before he began earnestly pursuing his family and extended family through genealogy research. He was a historian for the John Warner Genealogy. He was a charter member of the Lions Club of East Hartland, and an active member of the Lions Club up until the end. He was Secretary and an active member in the Granby Grange #5 with his wife RoseAnna.

He was a compassionate and caring man and was kind to anyone he met throughout his life. Over the years he hosted many foreign exchange students from the world over, many of whom he remained in contact with.

Charle is survived by his wife RoseAnna Lois Smith; his brother Warner Robert Smith and his wife Cynthia; and children and grandchildren: Kellie L. Gallagher and husband Randolph Gallagher and their sons, Craägen and Taliesin of Abbottstown, PA; Karla L. Andrulot and husband David of South Windsor, and her son Stephen of Granby; Kyle S. Smith and his wife Elvera Ross-Smith of Pennsylvania and their children Zachary, Gabrielle and Christian; Keri Reinhardt and her husband Gerald of Overland Park KS and their daughter Laurel; Timothy I. Bingham and wife Courtney of Bloomfield and their children Tara, Jaylanielle, Jonah, Jazlyn and; Scott E. Bingham and Amanda Violette of East Granby, and daughter, Olivia. There are many other relatives, too many to list. He was also predeceased by his first wife Nancy L. Smith, and his sister Warnille L. Smith, and daughter Crystal Bingham Lorenzo as well as at least two grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life on Sunday 25 March at 5:30 PM at the First Church of Hartland, 94 Granville Road, East Hartland, followed directly by refreshments at the parish hall across the street. All are welcome. An interment graveside service will be done on June 2, 2018 with details available at a later time.
