East Granby Obituary: Claire Tanzer, 85

Claire Royer Tanzer of East Granby passed away on February 26, 2018 at the age of 85.

She graduated from East Hartford High School in 1950. After Claire married, she began life with her new family in Windsor, and subsequently the family moved to Japan for several years where she loved the people and culture. Upon her return, the family built their own house in Simsbury, where she lived for 25 years raising her family.

Claire worked for Simsbury High School as a Data Coordinator for 31 years and retired in 1999. She was dedicated to her job and loved working with the students and supporting the school activities. She was a passionate and avid golfer where she spent many happy hours connecting with her friends on the golf course.

Claire’s other love was the game of bridge which always kept her mind sharp and brought her together with a wonderful group of friends that she cherished deeply. Claire enjoyed spending time with her family, especially during the holidays. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a constant source of joy.

Claire is survived by her son Mark and his longtime partner Sue Pekock along with their child Marie; her daughter, Cheryl Benjamin and husband Christopher; and her grandchildren Taylor, Haley, Rhianna and Christian and his lovely wife Lucia. Claire was blessed with 2 great grandchildren Hunter and Logan. Claire leaves behind a brother Roger Royer and his wife Lynette and their 2 daughters.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, March 9, 2018, 10:00 AM, at St. Joseph’s Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave, Poquonock section of Windsor. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Tariffville. A Celebration of Life will follow at Maple Tree Café in Simsbury.
