Fill Your Bowl (and Buy It Too) for Granby High Fundraiser

The Granby Food Bank and the Visual Arts Scholarship will be the lucky recipients of proceeds raised by the third annual Empty Bowls fundraiser planned for Friday, March 8, at the Senior Center.

Fifteen members of the National Honor Society at Granby Memorial High School are involved in Empty Bowls, according to junior Lexi Grimali.

The bowls — which can be purchased along with soup — are crafted by high school students and by local artists, including Avis Cherichetti, in the high school and middle school art rooms.

Soups will be donated by local businesses, Grimali said, and live music will be provided by students, including Andrew Berbarian and Stella Kortchmar in the band Owls Playing Golf.

"Students benefit from this kind of project because they get to see results from their individual handiwork and efforts," Grimali said by email.

"We make a large number of clay bowls by hand, and then we glaze them. We are very involved in creating this project, we make what we are selling," she said. "Then we will get to see the money that we raise put into action in the local community at the Granby Food Bank and in the visual arts scholarship. It is really great to directly give back to our community in that way."

The event will be held at the Senior Center on Friday, March 8, between 6:30-8:30. Tickets are $15 for a handmade bowl and soup and $8 for soup without a bowl. Tickets will be sold at the door or reservations can be made in advance by emailing granbyemptybowls2013@gmail.com.
