When and how did your business get started?
Our family business started in 1995 in the plaza next to the (at the time!) karate studio and the travel agency. I had wanted to open a natural foods store for years and a friend (thanks Louisa!) mentioned that a spot had opened in the plaza. We did a complete renovation of the space and lived there happily for 13 years. Five years ago, I took a giant leap of faith and jumped across the plaza and doubled my space to include a juice bar and our little cafe!
Why did you choose the town you chose to start your business in?
I chose my space in The Granby Village Shops because I knew that there were no other stores that could help me with types of groceries that I was purchasing for my family in the area. I wanted to be close to the middle/high school so that my daughters could walk to the shop after school and my youngest could easily go to Small World when she wasn't with me. My family has always been my number one priority and now I am so blessed to have my grandchildren actively running around in the shop!
What is your business best known for?  Â
Granby Village Health is best known for its comprehensive vitamin, mineral, and herbal supplement selection. We were the first store in this area, so many years ago, to carry a complete gluten free grocery line - today we offer so many different foods for so many diets - celiac, raw, vegan, paleo, just to name a few. We have a large bulk foods section, a beautiful tea and coffee room, exceptional skin care and earth/family friendly cleaning products. We strive for organic, non gmo products and support multiple local farms. Granby Village Health has an award winning juice bar and cafe in the store that makes incredibly delicious and healthy fruit smoothies, freshly pressed wheatgrass shots, vegetable juices and unique lunches that will be the most delicius food that you could ever hope for! People wait to hear what Donnas lunch specials are! And for the sweet tooth we are so happy to carry Divine Treasures chocolates...organic,fairly traded dark Belgian chocolate that is vegan, locally made and quite simply, the very best chocolates!
What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?  Â
I think that the family at Granby Village Health is very interesting - we have so many varied ages and ideas and lifestyles but when you put us all together under this roof, we blend together into such an excellent group. We are all connected with a genuine love of people and community - we love our customers so much and it has been a wonderful experience watching babies being born and now getting ready to head off to college.
Does your business offer a special deals card or program?
We have a Frequent Shoppers Card. A person receives "clicks" on their card for purchases. When the card is full, it is worth $25.00 in store merchandise!Â
We offer a daily discount to seniors.
We offer a Wholesale Buying Club which gives the customer an opportunity to purchase case lots at extra savings. Details are on our website.
