Eileen Phoebe (Luckey) Biklen, 94, of Granby, CT, died peacefully on Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at the McLean Home in Simsbury. Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Donald Biklen. Eileen was born in Paterson, NJ , Nov. 29, 1923, to the late Sidney and Anna Luckey. She worked for the US Army during World War II. She and Don met when they worked for Orangeburg Pipe Co. in Orangeburg, NY. They married in 1954 and lived in Park Ridge, NJ, Hudson, OH, and Marblehead, MA. They settled in Granby in 1972 where Don established the Monarch Plastics Company. She and Don raised beef cattle. She was a talented quilter and took great joy in her adored dogs and cats. Eileen was a member of the First Congregational Church of Granby and its Women’s Christian Fellowship and NeedleworX, volunteered for the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, and voting poll locations, hosted children in the summer for Fresh Air Kids, and participated in many local organizations such as the Granby Grange #5, Granby Senior Center, Granby Civic Club, and Salmon Brook Historical Society. Eileen leaves her niece MaryAnn Biklen of Chula Vista, CA, nephews W. Michael Biklen of Muscatine, IA, Stephen Biklen of Pittsford, NY, David Biklen of West Hartford, CT, Douglas Biklen of Orwell, VT, and Thomas Biklen of Concord, NH, and treasured friends. She will be dearly missed by all. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 12 at the First Congregational Church of Granby, 219 North Granby Rd, Granby, CT 06035 Memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church of Granby and the CT Humane Society, 701 Russell Rd, Newington, CT 06111.
