Severe Weather Forecast Issued for Granby, East Granby

The National Weather Service has issued a severe weather outlook for the region today and is warning of flash floods that could occur today and into tonight.

The agency is is saying showers and thunderstorms are likely after 5 p.m and says some of the storms could produce hail, gusty winds and heavy rain as temperatures in the region reach near 90 degrees.

New rainfall amounts will be between a tenth and quarter of an inch, and could be higher with a severe thunderstorm. The region is still soggy from the rains of June and with streams, brooks and rivers running unusually high for this time of year flash flooding is a possiblity, the agency says.

The flash flood watch will remain in effect until midnight.

The chance of showers and thunderstorms will be the norm for the next few days, the NWS says.
