CONNECTICUT — High temperatures last week exceeded 60 degrees in Connecticut, but it's back to reality for us as temperatures will only reach the freezing mark Monday, and we may even see some very light snow late Tuesday.

The good news is that the strong wind gusts which have blowing for the past several days begin to diminish this afternoon. However, it will still feel as cold as 10 degrees in Connecticut once you factor in the wind chill factor.

It looks like precipitation, which will be light, begins late Tuesday, and it's expected to be snow and there could be very minor accumulation in parts of the state.

It also looks like there is a chance for more rain, possibly mixed with some snow on Thursday night and Friday morning too.

WTNH News 8 chief meteorologist Gil Simmons said "Increasing clouds and dry tomorrow followed by some rain and snow showers on St. Patrick’s Day Wednesday! Warmer with some rain possible on Thursday that could end as a little wet snow early Friday morning then clearing and warming up for the weekend!"

Southern Connecticut forecast details:

A special weather statement has been issued for southern Connecticut Monday for a "period of enhanced potential for brush fire spread is anticipated... Relative humidity values are expected to fall to around 20 percent with wind gusts near 25 mph."

Tuesday snow showers?

The area may see some light snow late Tuesday and it will turn to a rain, snow, mix at the coast. Very little to no accumulation is expected.

Thursday storm?

A low pressure system is expected to bring rain on Thursday afternoon and evening.

"Mainly a rain event expected with this system, with steady rain expected Thursday night," the weather service said. "Rain ends on Friday, and rain could mix with snow with cold air advection on backside of low for late Thursday night into Friday. Dry conditions are expected Friday night into next weekend."

Northern Connecticut forecast details:

A special weather statement has been issued Monday for "elevated fire weather potential."

"This is due to the combination of relative humidity dropping between 15 and 25 percent in the afternoon, and northwest winds gusting between 25 and 35 mph with a few gusts up to 40 mph," the weather service said.

Tuesday snow showers?

The weather service said northern parts of the state may see snow flurries or snow showers late Tuesday and Wednesday. No real accumulation is expected.

Thursday storm?

"At this range confidence is low with regard to who sees how much rain or snow," the weather service said. "While the trend of late has been south and drier, it remains most likely that rain chances move in Thursday night into Friday." The precipitation could end as some snow.

"Besides precipitation chances, this will give a bit of temperature whiplash, with highs in the mid to upper 50s on Thursday then in the 30s on Friday," the weather service said.
