GREENWICH, CT — Going back to when she was a child, Melissa Pulcini had always wanted to own her own business, so when she finally opened the doors to ELIVATE Med Spa at 1455 E. Putnam Ave. in mid-February of 2020, her dreams had come true.

But several weeks later, the world came to a standstill as the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered businesses and forced people into their homes. ELIVATE had to close before they could even hold a grand opening event.

A few months later in May, businesses in Connecticut began to come alive again under certain restrictions. ELIVATE opened up, and has now been in business for just over a year.

To celebrate the official grand "re-opening", ELIVATE held a ribbon-cutting ceremony last week with staff members and First Selectman Fred Camillo, and Chamber of Commerce Chair, Marcia O'Kane.

"It was such a great event because everyone was just happy. It was a great way to start getting everyone back in here. I think people are so pumped up to get that sense of normalcy back," Pulcini said.

Pulcini said having to temporary close right after she opened her first business was scary, but she kept the faith and used the down-time to prepare for the big picture.

"They always say your first year of business is always the hardest kind of getting started, and then there was COVID on top of it. But I knew it was always going to be OK, and I knew I worked very hard to get there so I was not giving up," Pulcini said. "Instead of freaking out about it and thinking the business was never going to take off, I thought of how I could restructure. I used the time to kind of plan better for when we were able to reopen."

Pulcini has been practicing medicine for nearly 20 years as a board-certified Physician Assistant and Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) licensed in both New York and Connecticut. She described ELIVATE as a place where aesthetics and wellness go hand in hand.

"I really believe that if you feel good, you look good," she said. "We're really an inside out kind of place."

ELIVATE offers nutritional guidance, regenerative medicine, vitamin therapy, light therapy, as well as injectable treatments like botox, laser treatment and hair removal, body contouring, micro needling, facials, IV therapy among others.

Pulcini, who lives in New Canaan, decided to open the business in Old Greenwich because of the small-town community feel.

"Greenwich was the perfect spot for me because they still believe in supporting small business and supporting local members," Everyone has been so supportive."

Marcia O'Kane, the Chair of the Greenwich Chamber of Commerce, said she's been "delighted" to support ELIVATE over the past year.

"Management had the courage to start the business during a difficult year and has successfully navigated many challenges," O'Kane said. "They offer the Riverside and Old Greenwich part of town numerous spa options."

First Selectman Fred Camillo encouraged residents to head over to ELIVATE and take advantage of their services. He commended Pulcini for sticking it out through the pandemic.

"The timing was tough on them as it was with lots of people who are in business or starting businesses. She persevered and we're really happy and excited for them. I encourage people to go over there; they really have a nice set up. I'm confident Melissa will do very well," he said.
