GREENWICH, CT — The Town of Greenwich has issued an update on the ferry service to Great Captain Island, which was suspended last week after the Islander II Ferry experienced a mechanical breakdown.

According to the update, the Islander II vessel arrived at the shipyard and is awaiting repair. As a result, there will be no service during Fourth of July weekend.

"The Town has been working in conjunction with the Coast Guard and shipyard personnel to develop a schedule for the repair and inspection," the update said. "At this time, ferry service to Great Captain Island will not operate for the holiday weekend. We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available."

The suspended service has also disrupted service elsewhere, as over this past weekend, the ferry to Island Beach departed the Arch Street dock every hour instead of every half hour.
