GREENWICH, CT — An administrator at Greenwich High School recently tested positive for the coronavirus, and seven additional faculty members have been asked to quarantine as a result, according to district officials.

In a health alert sent to families Tuesday, Superintendent Toni Jones and Mary Keller, the district's head of nursing, said the administrator, who was last in school Wednesday, tested positive for the virus following an exposure outside of the district. The letter also indicates district officials were notified of the positive case over the weekend, however "an oversight" delayed them sending notice to families about it.

"We deeply regret that an oversight delayed sending this notice sooner, as we send health alerts and updates on a daily basis," the alert reads.

Seven additional faculty members were asked to quarantine for two weeks following thorough contact tracing, according to the alert. No students were required to quarantine.

An additional administrator and staff member who were exposed to positive cases of the virus from family members outside of the district have also been asked to quarantine for two weeks, according to the alert.

Last week, district officials announced two ninth grade students at Greenwich High School had tested positive for the virus and 22 students and three teachers at the school were asked to quarantine as a result.

There are currently 15 active cases of the virus among students, teachers and service providers in the school district, according to a tracker on the district website. The tracker was last updated Tuesday morning.

In total, the district has seen 78 cases of the virus originating from activities outside of school since the beginning of the school year, as well as the one case originating from in-school exposure at Eastern Middle School, according to the tracker.

Earlier this month, Superintendent Toni Jones emphasized district officials were in "constant contact" with local health officials and consistently monitoring statistics regarding the virus in the region.

"The safety and well-being of our staff and faculty is our utmost priority," Jones said in a statement, "and we are prepared to adjust if and when it becomes necessary."
