All dogs living in Greenwich over the age of six months must be licensed annually at the Town Clerk's Office. Dogs must wear the tag at all times — a dog without a tag is presumed to be unlicensed and is not protected by law.
Additionally, a current rabies vaccination must be presented at the time of licensing, as well as a certificate from the veterinarian indicating that the animal has been spayed or neutered.

For those who are blind, deaf or mobility impaired and have an guide dog, the Town will issue a license and dog tag free of charge.
Dogs must remain under the proper control of the owner and must be kept on a leash in designated areas of Town. Owners of roaming dogs are liable to prosecution.

According to the Greenwich Municipal Code, in order to promote public health and welfare, dog litter must be removed from public and private property. Failure to clean up after your animal shall be punishable by a fine.
Registering your dog can be done in-person or through the mail. There is a $1 penalty fee incurred for each month that the license fails to be renewed. The annual fee for a spayed or neutered dog is $8; an unaltered animal is $19 per year. A person who moves to Greenwich whose dog was previously licensed in another Connecticut town may transfer the registration for $1. A lost tag can be replaced for 50 cents.
