GREENWICH, CT — First Selectman Fred Camillo will have a challenger in this fall's municipal election.

The Nominating Committee of the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee announced on Monday that William "Bill" Kelly, an attorney and longtime Greenwich resident who has served on the Representative Town Meeting, Board of Estimate and Taxation, and Board of Education, will look to become Greenwich's chief elected official.

Janet Stone McGuigan, a member of the RTM, will join Kelly on the ticket, as she runs against incumbent Republican Selectperson Lauren Rabin.

"Our focus is the future of Greenwich — all of Greenwich. We want the Greenwich that we know and believe in, not one of politics and rancor; not one of collapsing roofs and downtown gridlock but one of low taxes; great schools and wonderful diversity,” Kelly said in a news release from the DTC. "Janet and I intend to bring a caring, compassionate and cooperative leadership style with forward thinking and creativity."

Going down the Democratic ticket, the DTC also announced that Mary "Molly" Saleeby, a current vice chair for her district and member of the body's Budget Overview Committee, will run for Town Clerk. Saleeby lost in 2019 to longtime Town Clerk Carmella Budkins.

On the BET, Democrats Laura Erickson, Miriam Kreuzer, Leslie Moriarty, Jeff Ramer and David Weisbrod will all run for re-election. Beth Krumeich, who announced that she will not run for another team, will be replaced by candidate Stephen Selbst. Selbst has lived in Greenwich for 28 years, and has experience as an attorney specializing in finance and restructuring.

Kathleen Stowe, vice chair of the Board of Education, has been recommended by the DTC for another term. The Nominating Committee also recommends Laura Kostin and Katherine LoBalbo, both RTM members, as candidates.

For the Board of Assessment Appeals, incumbents Joe Huley and Howard Richman will run, as well as Bill Grad.

The Democratic slate is rounded out with incumbents Dawn Fortunato and Donnie Romeo, who will run for Constable.

Democrats are expected to formally nominate their candidates in July, as will Republicans.
