Storm May Bring Wintry Mix, Rain And Snow To CT Midweek
A storm which is expected to impact Connecticut's weather from late Tuesday through Friday may bring both wintry weather and rain.
CONNECTICUT — It looks like Connecticut will be dealing with a long duration storm beginning Tuesday night through Friday morning. There won't be precipitation throughout this entire period but we can expect to see some rain Tuesday night and early Wednesday and then snow is expected to break out late Wednesday into Thursday.
The National Weather Service is saying there is a chance for accumulating snow late Wednesday, early Thursday, even at the immediate coast. No estimates have yet been released as the exact track of the storm remains uncertain.
It will be quiet to start the week as Monday looks great with sun and temps near 50 degrees and Tuesday will be warm with temps in the upper 40s but we can expect more clouds than sun.

Why Can We Expect Some Precipitation From Tuesday Night Through Friday AM?

The National Weather Service says, a "cold front approaches Tuesday, which is now forecast to move through late Tuesday night, allowing high pressure to build in from the north on Wednesday. The boundary will be close enough to the area to allow for some chance for precipitation for much of next week."
However, the weather service says it may actually remain dry for most of Wednesday afternoon and early evening due to the positioning of a high pressure system. Late Wednesday is the best chance for precipitation and new computer models show that more cold air is expected Wednesday night, which would lead to snow and or a wintry mix across the state through Thursday morning.
"This would bring colder air farther south than previously forecasted and around the time some of the steadier precipitation moves back into the area as the frontal boundary lifts north again. More in the way of snow/wintry mix is possible across the entire tri-state, even along the coast, from Wednesday night into Thursday, and there is the potential for accumulation, but again, there is still a great deal of uncertainty at this time. The GEFS also shows the potential for snow/wintry mix along the coast. A changeover back to plain rain is expected sometime Thursday morning into the afternoon, though far interior sections (of southern Connecticut) could see a wintry mix into the early evening hours," the weather service says concerning southern Connecticut.
Concerning northern parts of Connecticut, the weather service says, a "brief wintry mix of sleet or wet snow" is possible for Wednesday morning.
"More active, unsettled pattern Wed night into Fri. Wintry mix possible with first system Wed nite - Thu; wintry mix to mainly rain with another system Fri. Details on each remain uncertain
with significant spread in thermal profile and storm track. Watching another potential system late in the weekend, though not a sure bet with uncertainty still high," the National Weather Service says concerning northern Connecticut.
