Obituary: Rita Ellen King, 72, Of Greenwich

Rita Ellen King, 72, wife of the late Gerald M. King, died on February 17, 2021 after a sudden illness. Rita was born on January 22, 1949 at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY.

The daughter of Helen Crothers (Hughes) and John Hughes, attended Greenwich Public Schools and was a graduate of Greenwich High School with the class of 1966.

A Greenwich resident all of her life, Rita worked in the main office at New Lebanon School for many years. Rita loved the students and developed many lasting friendships throughout the years.

She was a loving wife, mother and doting grandmother who gave the best hugs. Her sweet personality and sense of humor will be missed and remembered by all.

Rita is survived by her loving sons, Brendon King of Greenwich and John King, his wife Kim and daughter Riley of New Fairfield.

She was also survived by her sister, Maggie and husband Richard Applegate of Greenwich and their son David and daughter Amy. Her sister Mary Jane, husband William Guiffredo of Naugatuck and sons William and Kyle. Laurie Hughes of Weston. Her sister Sally, husband Michael Terlizzi, and son Anthony of Brewster, NY.

She will be waked at Castiglione’s Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3, Greenwich, CT on Thursday February 25, 2021 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Internment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery, North St. Greenwich on Friday, February 26, 2021 at 11 a.m.
