CONNECTICUT — A powerful Nor'easter is expected to produce several inches of rain, lead to flooding concerns, and produce strong wind gusts that could cause power outages beginning Wednesday afternoon into Thursday, the National Weather Service says. The weather service has already issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Southern Connecticut saying, "Between 1 to 3 inches of rainfall, locally higher, is possible Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night with a developing coastal low pressure system. There is a low probability of flash flooding along a few of the fast responding small rivers and streams... Localized flash flooding will also be an issue for low-lying coastal roads if heaviest rain coincides with the Wed Night high tides."

Today is the calm before the expected storm arrives Wednesday afternoon. Connecticut will see plenty of sun and temps into the 60s today. Temps will drop into the 40s tonight and then a low pressure system will move in and will track "just south and east of Long Island late Wednesday and Wednesday night."

"Clouds increase Wednesday morning, and rain will move in during the afternoon and evening. The rain will be heavy at times, and a rumble or two of thunder is possible. Onshore gusty winds develop ahead of this storm system Wednesday, and temperatures will warm into the 60s despite the clouds and rain.

"As the low deepens Wednesday night, moving northeast along the New England coast Thursday, winds will shift around to the west or northwest and will be quite strong. Rain tapers off Wednesday night, but clouds and a few showers are expected into Thursday. Temperatures will be noticeably cooler Thursday, in the 50s, and the strong winds will add to the chill," the National Weather Service says.

WTNH News 8 Chief Meteorologist Gil Simmons says, "Rain moves our way for tomorrow afternoon. The heaviest rain will be for Wednesday nights with very strong wind gusts. We could have some scattered power outages Wednesday night into Thursday. A scattered shower for Thursday and then it dries out Friday with nice weather all weekend long!"
