"The Real Real is a fresh approach to luxury consignment," O'Kane said to Patch. "They are a wonderful fit for Greenwich Avenue and another way for shoppers to find bargains on authentic high end items."

While the company has both brick and mortar stores and a digital shopping experience, provided press materials describe The RealReal as "the world's largest online marketplace for authenticated, resale luxury goods," where customers can both buy and sell luxury items through a "safe and reliable" platform.

The company also attempts to make selling items an "effortless" process for customers through free virtual appointments, in-home pickup, drop-off and direct shipping. The RealReal also does a majority of the work for consignors, including authenticating, photographing and using AI and machine learning to determine optimal pricing for items.

Customers can sell items, receive free valuations and meet with company experts at any of The RealReal's retail locations. According to Courtney Hawkins, the company's vice president of retail, the Greenwich location follows the recent openings of stores in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Newport Beach, Calif.

"We're excited to be following our recent Brooklyn and Newport Beach store openings with our Greenwich location this month as part of our plan to open 10 neighborhood stores by the end of Q2," Hawkins said in a statement. "Stores boost our penetration in a market and drive supply, so brick and mortar is an important part of our strategic growth plan."

Tori Cornish, the Greenwich store's "head of shop," said the town is an ideal location for The RealReal's newest store due to the area's strong existing customer base.

"We're excited to offer them a local and convenient spot to shop, meet with our experts and drop off consignment," Cornish said in a statement.

She also noted the company is focused on opening stores in areas that are central for its customers and consignors.

"Greenwich Avenue was the most ideal location," Cornish said, "because it's not only convenient for our local customers, but it's also a premiere shopping destination for neighboring communities in New York and New Jersey."

The Greenwich Avenue area will also likely seen an uptick in foot traffic from residents and visitors as the weather gets nicer and coronavirus vaccinations continue to roll out in town.

During a coronavirus press update held Wednesday afternoon, town spokesperson Barbara Heins said both factors will likely have a positive impact on businesses in town, noting Tuesday's "fantastic" spring weather lead to outdoor dining tables at many restaurants along the avenue being completely filled.

"That's what we're hoping will continue to happen," Heins said during the press update, "but we don't want people to end up having a false sense of security because they have a vaccine."
