Strong-To-Severe Thunderstorms On Labor Day Possible: CT Weather

If you have outdoor plans in Connecticut on this holiday, here is when you're most likely to see severe weather today.

CONNECTICUT — It appears the morning will remain dry in Connecticut but especially after 2 p.m. today chances increase for potentially strong-to-severe thunderstorms across the state. If you have outdoor plans on this Labor Day holiday, you'll want to plan to be able to move indoors quickly, especially in the afternoon hours.

The National Weather Service says, "A frontal system impacts the region today, bringing an increase in cloud cover and chances for showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will not depart too much from normal, ranging from the lower 70s to near 80, with a breezy onshore flow.

"The cold front then moves through overnight, bringing a return to drier conditions, though some patchy fog may be possible prior to sunrise. Expect overnight lows to range from the upper 50s to
upper 60s.

"Weak high pressure builds into the region Tuesday and southerly flow will return. The forecast has a warming trend Tuesday into Wednesday as southerly flow continues and highs rise into the
80s. A cold front will be approaching Wednesday and the chance for showers and few thunderstorms returns to the forecast."

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Hartford, Tolland and Windham counties saying, "There is a risk for scattered strong to severe storms but nothing widespread. Threats of strong to damaging winds, can`t rule out the low risk of a tornado. There also exists the possibility of excessive rainfall contributing to localized urban and poor drainage flooding."
