GREENWICH, CT — According to Aquarion's website, water service in the area of Station Drive has been restored. Construction to repair the roadway will continue.

"During and after the outage event, some customers may experience discolored water. You may want to use stored water for drinking and cooking, and delay clothes washing until water is clear. Run your cold water faucet until the water appears clear, prior to resuming use for these purposes," Aquarion said.

Water service is expected to be restored "within the hour" according to Director of Communications for Aquarion, Peter Fazekas, but construction to repair the roadway will continue.

Crews began working in the area of Station Drive on Tuesday morning, following a 16-inch water main break that affected roughly 20 customers on several streets. Fazekas said a contributing factor for the break is the increase demand for water over the past few days during this mini heatwave.

"The water is flowing very rapidly through those mains, and if there is a weak point in a connection or in a piece of main, that can trigger a water main break," Fazekas said. "There's a lot of irrigation going on."

No flooding has been reported in the area, Fazekas said. Lt. John Slusarz of the Greenwich Police Department said Aquarion had hired officers for traffic control in the area while repairs are ongoing.
