$3M Roundabout Project Gets Underway Monday, Affecting 3 Towns
The project to build a "modern" roundabout on Routes 1 and 22 in Guilford, Branford and North Branford will take more than a year to finish.
GUILFORD, CT — Heads-up that beginning Monday, a $3 million state transportation project to build a "modern" roundabout at Routes 1 and 22 in Guilford, Branford and North Branford will get underway.
The project consists of construction of a modern roundabout to improve safety and alleviate peak hour traffic congestion, according to the state Department of Transportation.
The $2,957,573.34 contract was awarded to Empire Paving, Inc. in May. The project is expected to be done by Oct. 2021.

The DOT said that the contractor will be allowed to work on Route 1, East Main Street and Boston Post Road, and the "new circulatory roadway" Monday through Friday from 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. and
Saturday and Sunday between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.
But on Route 22, Notch Hill Road, daytime hours are scheduled. Work will be done Monday through Friday between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. and between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m.
Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions, the DOT said.
"Motorists are advised to remain alert, to maintain a safe speed, and to utilize caution when driving in this vicinity," transportation officials said.
