50 New COVID Cases Represent A Downward Trend: First Selectman
Matt Hoey said the "dramatic rise" in COVID-19 cases is related to holiday gatherings and urged the community to "not let our guard down."
GUILFORD, CT — First Selectman Matt Hoey said the "dramatic rise" in COVID-19 cases in Guilford is a worrisome "downward trend."
"With the addition of 50 new cases this week, we continue to see a downward trend in new cases from a high of 99 three weeks ago," Hoey said in an address to the community Friday.
"Clearly, the dramatic rise was related to holiday gatherings," he said. "Our total case count is now 907 with 29 fatalities. Our two-week rolling daily, new case rate per 100,000 people has dropped to 42.4 percent," but, he added, "this is not the time to let our guard down. None of us thinks we will spread the virus, but the reality is that anyone of us can."

The good news is that Guilford's first vaccine clinic Monday had 90 people aged 75 and older, along with some first responders, getting the vaccine.
Clinics will continue to be held on Mondays in Guilford as long as we receive sufficient vaccines from the state, he said.
