Composting Mitigates Climate Change, Reduces Waste & Saves Money

GUILFORD, CT — Composting is an ancient practice that's survived the millennia. It helps reduce waste in landfills, mitigates climate change and, saves the town of Guilford money.

Sustainable Guilford Task Force chairperson Terri Cain explains the how-to's and benefits of home composting.

Composting builds soil fertility. In composting, you take organic matter - like all the food scraps from your kitchen - and manage the decomposition or breakdown of organic and solid wastes in a bin or heap where all the nutrients are reclaimed. The final product is a fertilizer.

Cain says there's "no way to fail at composting."
