Guilford Coronavirus Update: Numbers, Mask Use

Guilford officials are reminding the public that mask wearing is now mandatory under most conditions.

GUILFORD, CT — Guilford has 61 confirmed residents who have been infected with the new coronavirus, according to a release from the town. One person in the town has died of the coronavirus.

The town is reminding the public about new state requirements regarding the wearing of masks which went into effect Monday night at 8 p.m.

Anyone in public place who cannot maintain the 6-foot safe distance, SHALL cover their face and nose with a “mask or cloth face-covering” This can be a scarf, bandana or other cloth covering if you do not have a mask
In regards to transit, anyone “using the services” of any taxi, car, livery, ride-sharing or similar service or “means of mass public transit” or “while within any semi-enclosed transit stop or waiting area” SHALL wear a mask or cloth face covering. This provision must be adhered to regardless of the number of feet apart, you must wear a mask or face covering when ride sharing.

Exceptions to this rule are: if it would be contrary to somebody's "health or safety because of a medical condition; a child in a child care setting; a child under the age of 2; an older child "if parent, guardian or person responsible for the child is unable to place the mask safely on child’s face."

"We have been receiving inquiries regarding the face masks which are on order. We anticipate that the masks will be available for distribution/pickup mid next week. Information regarding their distribution will be made available as soon as they are ready for dispersal," the release says.
